There are many people in the gospel that were called by God to do something important for him, but no one was asked for something as inconceivable as saying, you’re going to be pregnant and you’re going to carry the Messiah, the Son of God, into the world. You wonder what it was in Mary that enabled her to say yes. But it does say something about faith. It does say something that when you are truly a man or woman filled with the conviction of the work of the Holy Spirit in this world, it can accomplish anything. Anything. That’s the most important thing.

To surrender to the awesome nature of God working through a human being, and that’s our task.
