The Gospel for The memorial of St. Pius Pietrochina priest is taken from Luke 8, chapter 16 to the 18th verse. Jesus said to the crowd, no one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel or sets it under a bed. Rather he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light. But there is nothing hidden that will not become visible and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light. Take care then how you hear to anyone who has more will be given and from the one who has not, even what he seems to have will be taken away.

There are many ways to understand the light. It was the first thing that God created. It’s an image of the Spirit of God enlightening our eyes, seeing everything around us as it was meant to be seen. I believe this passage is talking to us about the truth that is consistently being revealed to us generation after generation. And the more that we see it, the more it is spread between us. So he’s saying, be sure and pay attention to what you hear and know that the truth is what has come into the world.

Please ponder these thoughts and I will close with a prayer, the closing prayer. Father, your promise is that you will be our teacher. You taught us that you live with God inside of you, and that’s who we are. Also bless us with this awareness, this truth that dwells in our hearts, that longs to show us more and more of what is real, what is true. And we ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
