The gospel for Monday of the 25th week in Ordinary Time is taken from Luke 8th chapter 16 to the 18th verse. Jesus said to the crowd, no one who lights a lamp, conceals it with a vessel or sets it under a bed. Rather he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light. But there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light. Take care then how you hear to anyone who has more will be given. And from the one who has not, even what he seems to have will be taken away.

In this passage, Jesus is describing his ministry. He enters into the world as the light that has never been fully seen before, the truth that has never fully been heard. And so what you hear in this is the excitement that I feel he wants to create in the crowd that they are witnessing the essence of what God has always longed to achieve. Union with human beings. Foreign us to listen to the words that you speak, their words of life. We may have a glimpse of what that is, but we often can’t receive what we’re not ready for.

And so bless us with that openness to the truth, so that the little that we have will not be lost. And we ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
