The Gospel for Tuesday of the 30th week in ordinary time is taken from Luke 13:18 21 Jesus said, what is the kingdom of God like? To what can I compare? Is like a mustard seed that a man took and and planted in the garden. When it was fully grown, it became a large bush, and the birds of the sky dwelt in its branches. Again he said, to what shall I compare the kingdom of God? It is like yeast, which a woman took and mixed in with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch of dough was leavened.

Nothing is more important than to understand the ministry of Jesus, than to understand the kingdom of God. What does he want the kingdom to be like? It’s obviously a kingdom where people grow and change and evolve and have a nurturing power to save one another. That’s exactly what Jesus is pointing out. We open our heart to a truth that we haven’t seen before. It begins to change everything we see in everything we do.

And it grows into a powerful, powerful image of a tree filled with spirit, filled with freedom. And then he also says the kingdom is something that it has its own way of transforming everything that we do. So it’s not just knowing a thought or an idea, but becoming someone, becoming a nurturing, powerful source. Closing Prayer Father, awaken us to the ways in which we are called to grow and evolve. Give us patience as we slowly move day by day deeper into an awareness of who you are and why we are here. Give us wisdom, Lord, and we ask this in Jesus name.
