The Gospel for Wednesday of the 15th week in Ordinary Time is taken from Matthew 11:25, 27th verse. At that time Jesus exclaimed, I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth. For although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned, you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.
This passage makes very clear One of the things that Jesus wanted more than anything else to do was to reveal to us the true nature of the Father. And he makes clear that he is the only human being, the only one that walked this earth, that had full, complete knowledge of who God the Father is. That was his authority, that was his power. And as he revealed more and more of who the Father was, it became clear that the world was not ready and continued to reject him, particularly rejecting the image of a Father so loving, so kind, and so present. Please take a few moments to reflect upon these images and then I will close with a prayer. Foreign Closing Prayer Father, we have so many notions of who you are, and we always need to be called into a place of reflection and wonder and awe at who you have revealed yourself to be.
Through Jesus, bless us with openness. Let us let go of things in the past to keep us from the fullness of the love and the beauty of our Father. And we ask this in Jesus name. Amen.
